AYP, Renovation, Change, Choice and the Years to Come

Greetings Turner Middle School Family,

Thank you for your continued support as your new principal. We’ve almost made it through first semester, successfully, and we look forward to even greater successes as the school year comes to a close. This year our focus is on mathematics, writing, and student attendance. We will have the same focus next year. There have been several changes at Turner Middle School as we continue to improve our environment, expectations, and student achievement outcomes. We continue to invite our stakeholders to assist us in our efforts to be “The Best Middle School in Georgia.” As you know, we made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) last year, and we certainly intend to do the same this year.

The accountability system in Georgia, and the United States, is currently under review, and the No Child Left Behind Act, and its measurement of student success, will more than likely be restructured in the very near future. Rest assured...we are on the cutting edge of meeting our goals regardless of the accountability measures in place at the end of this school year and beyond. Several students and parents chose another school this year; however, we have continued to make significant gains in relatively short time, and the best is yet to come. We invite our students, parents, and our stakeholders to reconsider their “choice” options for the upcoming school year. We invite you to visit our campus to observe for yourselves what we’re all about.

Turner Middle School is slated to undergo major renovations this summer. There will be noticeable changes in the infrastructure and in our technological capabilities. This is a multi-million dollar renovation that will further our school pride and will help finalize the transformation we’re undertaking. The pieces are in place for a lot of success for our students, academically, socially, and emotionally. Our students are competitive and our teachers and staff are outstanding. The diversity we offer is a reflection of today’s society, and students that attend Turner Middle School will be well equipped to handle and appreciate the diversity they will inevitably encounter in the 21st century.

We wish you a happy holiday season, and we look forward to serving our community for years to come! Please take a serious look at us, “The Best Middle School in Georgia!!!”
