The 21st CCLC after school program commenced on Thursday, August 24th. The program engages students by providing learning opportunities that tap into students’ interests and spark their imagination. Our program exposes students to enrichment experiences that they find relevant and meaningful, such as, sports medicine, culinary arts, photography, sewing and chess. One of the unique features of the program is that all enrichment activities have been included at the suggestion of the students and their parents who complete a survey stating the programs in which they have the most interest. By allowing students a choice and voice in the programs being offered, students are enthused and this results in satisfactory enrollment and attendance numbers. Classes are taught by a diverse staff who are able to meet the academic and developmental needs of the students in the program. Staff who realize that the regular school hours might not afford adequate time for students to develop in other areas such as social skills, and so they provide opportunities for mentoring, tutoring, as well as, college and career exploration. In addition to providing students with opportunities to build their ability to establish positive relationships with their peers and other adults, the program provides hands on learning experiences in a range of core subjects. Family engagement is also encouraged in the 21st CCLC after school program. Throughout the year we will host a number of parent and family engagement workshops, which will provide parents with ideas and suggestions on how they can assist their students at home to ensure their success at school.  We encourage our parents to visit and participate in our many and varied events; from our workshops, to our cook outs, to our annual Thanksgiving feast. If you need more information on the 21st CCLC after school program and the benefits that your student can derive from it, please feel free to call the onsite coordinators at Turner Middle School, Ms. Alicia Boyard and Dr. Carol Lobban at 770-651-5500.
