Education

I have a Bachelors degree in English, Language and Literature with a focus in Creative Writing and a minor in Sociology from Augusta State University. I completed my graduate studies at Georgia State University and gained a Master of Arts in Teaching Middle Grades Education with a concentration in Language Arts and Social Studies for grades 4 through 8.

Experience

The 2016-2017 school year is my first official year teaching as a part of the Douglas County School System. I have served as a student teacher and teacher's assistant at Turner Middle School in the 2015-2016 school year. I have also student taught and volunteered previously at Austell Elementary and Simpson Middle School. I participated in a study abroad initiative in Cape Town, South Africa as a partner with the Amy Biehl Foundation, which was perhaps one of my most memorable teaching experiences to date. Being able to interact with children from various parts of the continent, coming from different economical situations and cultural beliefs made the experience even more meaningful. I love teaching and cannot see myself doing anything else. It warms my heart to see the eagerness of my students. I love to see their thirst for learning and watch as they develop and tailor their own learning styles and perspectives. I view learning and education as a partnership wherein the student and teacher work tandem to create and develop meaningful instruction and acquisition of concepts, knowledge and course content.

Bio

I was born and raised on the beautiful island of St. Croix, in the United States Virgin Islands. I savor pursuits of knowledge and intellect. I immerse myself heavily into language and culture, as they are two topics that I find fascinating and stimulating. I am an avid traveller and love learning about new groups of people and their cultures. I love volunteering and working on various service projects. I adore children and that is the continuous fuel that drives my teaching. I aim to show my students just how much a good education can transform any situation that they may encounter in their lives. I seek to cultivate active thinkers that seek to challenge themselves at every chance.
